Accidents Happen
In the event of an accident, it is important to take the following steps.
Step 1: Take Control
- Keep a calm demeanor so that you are able to manage the situation
- Ensure that your passengers are ok. If possible, move as far as possible from the road way and pull to the side but stay at the scene of the accident.
- Warn oncoming traffic by activating your hazard warning lights.
- Call the police, Emergency Response services, or 800-TRIN(8764) if you require wrecking or other assistance to remove the vehicle
- Outline position of accident
Do not admit fault before checking with your insurer. – Do not discuss the details of the car accident with anyone beside the police or your claims representative.
Step 2: Exchange Information with Other Driver involved in the accident.
- Please note that the drivers can be different from the insured.
- Make note of all the parties that were involved in the accident drivers, passengers as well as witnesses – Name, telephone numbers, addresses
- Vehicle Registration numbers
- Insurance Details – Name of insured, insurer, policy and certificate numbers, expiry date
Step 3: Report Accident to the Police
Report the matter to the nearest police station within 24 hours. Take the name and number of the officer to whom the report is made.
Report the matter as early as possible to us and submit all the relevant documents required for processing.
